Information

  • A portfolio should contain a well-balanced selection of planning objects: both short-term and long-term projects, both beneficial high-risk projects and less beneficial low-risk projects.
  • In order to select the right planning objects for the portfolio, the portfolio managers compare the planning objects (e.g. with respect to their risks and benefits).

Where can I compare planning objects with respect to their risks/benefit?

In the Projects, Proposals, Ideas and Programs modules in the Planning Objects with Bubble Charts panel. You can open the panel via the entry of the same name in the user menu of the Portfolio manager role.

Who is allowed to compare planning objects with respect to risks and benefit?

All users who have access to the modules mentioned above and have modification rights for projects. In PLANTA standard these are the managers of the respective portfolio and the multi-project managers. For information on user rights, please click here.

Compare and Select Planning Objects with Regard to Risks and Benefit

Information

Procedure

  • Look at the bubble chart in order to compare objective contributions, risk values, and NPV (Net Present Value) of the planning objects in relation to each other.
    • The x and y axes of the bubble chart show the degree of objective contribution and risk values.
    • The size of the bubbles reflects the amount of the NPV values of the respective planning objects.
    • The NPV value of a planning object is automatically calculated when particular parameters are filled. For further information, please refer to the descriptions of the NPV value and of other parameters involved.
  • Drag the cursor to a bubble to have the exact NPV value of the planning object displayed.
  • If required, click on the bubble or ID of a planning object in order to open the modules of the planning object and to have a look at further information.
  • Look at the tabular listing of all planning objects below the bubble chart to compare the exact numeric values of the planning object.

Details

  • In tabular listing, the planning objects are divided into two areas:
    • Planning objects without portfolio assignment - already contained in another portfolio
    • Planning objects without portfolio assignment- ot contained in any portfolio
  • It is generally possible to include a planning object in multiple portfolios at the same time, however, this may impair the portfolio budget calculation. PLANTA therefore recommends that you assign a planning object to one portfolio only.
