Information

  • Links represent dependencies between tasks of a project and have an impact on the calculation of the project dates.

Links can be created both in table form or graphically

In table form

  • in the Schedule module, right-click on the required task and select the Insert → Link context menu command or click on the plus-symbol next to the Link heading in the Task module. 
    • Fill the following fields in the new link record:
    • Save and click on the Calculate schedule button in the toolbar to recalculate the schedule.

Graphically in the Schedule module

  • Move the mouse pointer to the bar from which a link is to be created (source bar). Instead of the mouse pointer, a cross will be displayed.
  • Place the cross at the beginning or at the end of the source bar depending on which link type you wish to create (e.g. for the Finish-Start relationship, place the cross at the end of the source bar).
  • Click and hold the left mouse button and drag the mouse to the beginning or to the end of the target bar depending on what link type you wish to create (e.g. for a Finish-Start relationship drag the mouse to the start of the target bar). As a result, a connection line between the two bars will be displayed.
  • As soon as the destination bar is reached, the start position in the source bar and the destination position in the destination bar are marked by yellow arrows.
  • Release the left mouse button. The new link will be created and will be visualized as a connection line.

Graphical editing of links in the Task module is not possible.

Information

  • It is possible to create cross-area links graphically between gate bars and task bars

Procedure

  • In order to be able to create links between gates and tasks in the Gantt chart, the Schedule with Gates parameter must be activated in the required project (in the Project Core Data module).
  • The creation procedure is the same as for regular tasks: Drag the Link from the required task bar in the Gantt chart to the required gate (please make sure to drag the link onto the gate margin and not onto the gate name.
    • As a result, a double link is created: to the required gate below the time scale and to the respective master milestone in the Gantt chart. If you drag a link in the Gantt chart to a master milestone, a double link to the respective gate will be displayed as well. If such a link is edited afterwards (e.g. if the type is changed or deleted), both links are always changed accordingly.
      • Reason: Since physically/logically gates are the same objects as master milestones in the Gantt chart, two links are implicitly created when they are dragged.
  • Links can only be created from task bars to gates but not the other way around (from gates to task bars).

Information

  • Every link can be edited in the respective fields of the table view by changing the required link parameters. The most important parameters are:

In table form

  • Mark the required link line.
  • Click on the delete symbol in the toolbar.

Graphically

  • Click on the required link line in the Gantt chart to have it highlighted.
  • Then right-click and select the Delete link context menu command.

Note

  • You can only delete links graphically in particular module variants of the Schedule module (e.g. the Base variant).
    • If you try to delete a link in module variants in which graphical deletion is not allowed, the following message is displayed: Deletion not permitted in this area.
