Information

  • Links represent dependencies between tasks of a project and have an impact on the calculation of the project dates.

  • The description below will only deal with links between the tasks of one project (internal links). For detailed information on all link types, please refer to the Links topic.

Where can I link tasks?

In the Schedule module of the required project

You can open the project a) by opening a dialog window via the Extras → Go to menu or via CTRL + G and entering the ID of the required project or b) by clicking on the link on the ID of the required project in any module. Subsequently, click on the Schedule module tab. 

in the Task module (task data sheet)

You can open this module from the Schedule module by clicking on the link on the ID of the required task.

Who is allowed to link tasks?

All users who have access to the Schedule module and have modification rights for projects. These are, in PLANTA standard, managers of the respective project, their deputies, or multi-project managers. For further information on rights, please click here.

In the Schedule

Tasks can be mutually linked in the Schedule module both in table form and graphically in a Gantt chart. 

In table form

  • To do so, right-click on the required task in the Schedule module and select the Insert → Links context menu command.
  • A link line will be inserted in which you can select the successor, define the link type, and possibly specify an interval.

Graphically 

  • Move the mouse pointer to the bar from which a link is to be created (source bar). Instead of the mouse pointer, a cross will be displayed.
  • Place the cross at the beginning or at the end of the source bar depending on which link type you wish to create (e.g. for the Finish-Start relationship, place the cross at the end of the source bar).
  • Click and hold the left mouse button and drag the mouse to the beginning or to the end of the target bar depending on what link type you wish to create (e.g. for a Finish-Start relationship drag the mouse to the start of the target bar). As a result, a connection line between the two bars will be displayed.
  • As soon as the destination bar is reached, the start position in the source bar and the destination position in the destination bar are marked by yellow arrows.
  • Release the left mouse button. The new link will be created and will be visualized as a connection line.

In the Task Data Sheet

Procedure

  • Open the required task in the Task module (task data sheet). To do so, click on the link on the ID of the required task in the Schedule module.
  • To do so, right-click on the required task in the Links area and select the Insert → Links context menu command.
  • A link line will be inserted in which you can select the successor, define the link type, and possibly specify an interval.

Unlike in the schedule, graphical linkage is not possible here since only one single task is displayed.

In table form

  • Expand the required task in the Schedule module.
  • Mark the required link line.
  • Click on the  delete symbol in the toolbar.

Graphically

  • Click on the required link line in the Gantt chart to have it highlighted.
  • Then right-click and select the Delete link context menu command.

Note

  • You can only delete links graphically in particular module variants of the Schedule module (e.g. the Base variant).
    • If you try to delete a link in module variants in which graphical deletion is not allowed, the following message is displayed: Deletion not permitted in this area.

In the Task Data Sheet

Procedure

  • Open the required task in the Task module (task data sheet). To do so, click on the link on the ID of the required task in the Schedule module.
  • Mark the required successor-line in the Links area.
  • Click on the  delete symbol in the toolbar.

Unlike in the schedule, graphical deletion of links is not possible here since only one single task is displayed.
