Links

Links map dependencies between tasks of in a project and have an impact on the calculation of the project dates. For information on the options for mapping dependencies between projects, please click here.

Links can be created, edited, and deleted in the Schedule module (graphically in the Base module variant and in table form in the Entire Schedule module variant) and in the Task module (table form). It is recommended to edit the existing links per task in the respective Task Data Sheet.

Create

  • In the Schedule ( Entire Schedule module variant) module, right-click on the required task and select the Insert → Link context menu command or click on the plus-symbol next to the Link heading in the Task module.

    • Fill the following fields in the new link record:

    • Save.

    • Then, click on the Calculate schedule button in the action bar in the Schedule module to recalculate the schedule.

Edit

Delete

  • Mark the required link line.

  • Click on the Delete Selected button in the action bar.

Graphical creation in the Schedule module

  • Move the cursor over the bar from which a link is to be create (source bar).

  • White circles are displayed on both sides of the bar.

  • Click on the circle on the side of the source bar from which the link should start. This depends on the type of the desired relationship.

  • Repeat the procedure on the target bar and click on the circle at the side of the target bar to which you want the link to lead.

  • The new link is created and visualized graphically as a connection line.

For links that cause a network cycle, a dialog message is displayed. The affected links (records are marked in red) must be corrected so that the calculation can be performed.

Delete

  • In the gantt chart mark the required link row with a right-click and press DEL.

  • Confirm the dialog message with Yes .

Note

  • You can only delete links graphically in particular module variants of the Schedule module (e.g. the Base variant).

    • If you try to delete a link in module variants in which graphical deletion is not allowed, the following message is displayed: Deletion not allowed in this area.

Information

  • It is possible to create cross-area links graphically between gate bars and task bars.

Procedure

  • In order to be able to create links between gates and tasks in the Gantt chart, the Schedule with Gates parameter must be activated in the required project (in the Project Core Data module).

  • The creation procedure is the same as for regular tasks: In the Gantt chart, pull the link from the desired task bar to the desired gate.

    • As a result, a double link is created: to the required gate below the Time Scale and to the respective master milestone in the Gantt chart. If you drag a link in the Gantt chart to a master milestone, a double link to the respective gate will be displayed as well. If such a link is edited afterwards (e.g. if the type is changed or deleted), both links are always changed accordingly.

      • Reason: Since physically/logically gates are the same objects as master milestones in the Gantt chart, two links are implicitly created when they are dragged.

  • Links can only be created from task bars to gates but not the other way around (from gates to task bars).

Note

Show Task Chain

Procedure

  • Right-click on the required task.

  • Select the Show predecessor/successor context menu command.

  • The What do you want to do? dialog message is displayed with selection options (via the buttons) for the display of the data in the Task Chain module.

    • Depending on the selection made in the dialog module, the following is displayed in the Task Chain module:

      • direct predecessors or direct successors of the selected task or

      • all predecessors or all successors of the selected task or

      • all predecessors and successors of the selected task (i.e. the entire network).
