Board Templates



Information

  • Board templates can be used in PLANTA pulse to create boards with a uniform structure (e.g. sprint boards) quickly and easily.

  • This way, lists, cards or also custom fields and labels can be copied over to all boards which are created from the template.

Details

  • Board templates belong to a project and are displayed in the Projects panel in the Board Templates tab of the project.

  • They are labeled as board templates with the icon.

    • On the icon, there is a tooltip which indicates how many boards have already been created out of the template.

  • Board templates can also be managed by global admins in the Administration panel.

Create Board Template

Information

  • There are two different options to create board templates in PLANTA pulse:

Procedure 1

  • Switch to the Projects panel and open a project.

  • Open the Board Templates tab.

  • Click on the placeholder board card Create New Template within a group.

  • Enter a title for the new board template.

  • Click Create.

  • The new board template opens.

  • The members of the project are automatically added as members to the board template.

Procedure 2

  • Open board → _BoardTemplateFunktionen_TemplateBoard | id (en)_BoardTemplateFunktionen_TemplateBoard Sidebar...More

  • In the Board Menu, select the option Save as Board Template.

  • Enter a title for the board template.

  • In the listbox Template Group, select the group into which the template is to be added in the Projects panel.

  • Select whether cards and members of the board are to be copied to the board template.

    • Comments on cards are never copied to the board template.

  • Click Save.

  • The new board template opens.


Notes

  • Board templates can only be created within a project.

    • If a board is not part of a project, the option Save as Board Template is missing from the board menu.

  • When a board is saved as a board template, the original board remains unchanged, i.e. no conversion takes place.

Import Board Template

Information

  • Board templates and all their cards, lists and members can be exported and imported via a .json file.

  • To import a board template, it needs to have been exported before.

Procedure

  • Click Create New Template in the Projects panel.

  • In the dialog box, click Import Template.

  • Via Copy/Paste, insert the contents of the previously exported .json file.

  • Click Import.

  • Select the members to be imported.

  • Click OK.

  • The imported board template is opened.

Create a Board from a Template

Procedure 1

  • Switch to the Projects panel and open a project.

  • Click on the placeholder board card Create New Board within the board group.

  • Enter a title for the new board.

  • If needed, change the visibility mode of the board. To do so, click Change and select the mode.

    • The visibility mode can later also be changed in the board bar.

    • By default, new boards are created as private boards.

  • Click Use Template.

  • Select the required template.

  • Select whether cards and members of the board template are to be copied to the board.

    • Comments on cards are never copied to the board template.

    • If both cards and members are copied, the assignments of members to cards are also copied to the board.

  • Click Create.

  • The new board opens.


Procedure 2

  • Open the board template from which a board is to be created.

  • In the board template bar, click Create Board from Template.

  • Enter a title for the board.

  • Select whether cards and members of the board template are to be copied to the board.

    • Comments on cards are never copied to the board template.

    • If both cards and members are copied, the assignments of members to cards are also copied to the board.

  • If needed, change the visibility mode of the board. To do so, click Change and select the mode.

    • The visibility mode can later also be changed in the board bar.

    • By default, new boards are created as private boards.

  • Click Create.

  • The new board opens.

  • The board is created within the same project as the board template.

  • The sidebar is displayed at the right side of a board template and mainly contains the same elements as the sidebar on boards.

  • More information on the elements of the sidebar on boards can be found here.

  • In the following chapters, the elements of the sidebar which are specific to board templates are described.

Details

  • Just as on boards, the sidebar on board templates also contains information on the following:

    • Members

      • Members can be added to a board template which can then later be copied to the boards which are created from the template.

      • If a board template is created in the Projects panel, the members of the project are automatically added to the board template.

      • If a board template is created from an existing board, the user can choose whether to copy the members of the board to the board template.

    • Labels

      • Labels are copied to a board when it is created from a board template.

Board Template Menu

Information

  • Via the menu item ... More in the sidebar, the board template menu with further options can be opened.

  • The board template menu mainly contains the same elements as the board menu.

  • Information on the elements of the board menu can be found here.

  • In the following chapters, the elements of the board template menu which are specific to board templates are described.

Copy Template

Information

  • By copying a board template, a new board template with the contents of the original template can be created.

Procedure

  • Open board template→ Sidebar...More

  • In the board template menu, select the option Copy Template.

  • Enter a title for the board template copy.

  • Select the template group in which the copy is to be displayed in the Projects panel.

  • Select whether cards and members of the board template are to be copied.

    • Comments on cards are never copied.

  • Click Copy.

  • The board template copy is opened automatically.

  • The board template is created in the same project as the original board template.

Export Template

Information

  • Board templates and all their cards, lists and members can be exported via a .json file.

Procedure

  • Open board template→ Sidebar...More

  • In the board template menu, select the option Export Template.

  • A .json file of the board template is created and downloaded.

  • Using this file, the board template can be imported somewhere else.

Note

Archive Template

Information

  • A board template can be archived so that it will not be displayed in PLANTA pulse anymore, but the related data and information will not be lost.

Procedure

Details

  • Via the Projects panel → Archive, the archived board templates can be accessed and restored, if needed.

  • Archived board templates can be restored by all board admins of the board template.

Note

Delete Template

Information

  • A board template can be deleted, which will also delete all related objects (e.g. lists, cards) and information.

Procedure

  • Open board template→ Sidebar...More

  • In the board template menu, select the option Delete Template.

  • In the dialog box, click Delete.

Details

  • If a board template in PLANTA pulse is only to be hidden instead of deleted, so that the related data will be kept, it can also be archived.

Notes

  • This menu item is only available for board admins.

  • A deleted board template and all related data cannot be restored anymore.

  • Global admins can also delete board templates in the Administration panel.

Template Archive

Information

  • Archived cards, lists and swimlanes can be accessed in the template archive and can be restored or deleted if necessary.

Procedure

  • Open board template→ Sidebar...More

  • In the board template menu, select the option Template Archive.

  • Switch to the tab of the object to be edited (cards, lists or swimlanes).

  • By clicking on the links, the objects can be restored or deleted.

    • Restored objects are automatically added to the board template again.

    • They appear at the position from which they were deleted.

Note

  • Archived boards can be accessed in the menu Archive.

  • If lists and swimlanes are archived, the related cards are archived as well. They are, however, not listed separately in the tab Cards.
